One Treasured Day: Goin' to the Chapel

Initially, I wanted to walk to the church. Adam insisted that we rent a trolley to get me there. That's what we ended up doing, and I'm so glad we did.

I'm glad we rented a trolley because it allowed everyone to get there comfortably...

...but also because it helped us manage a last-minute accessory malfunction. The back of my sister's earring fell off right when we got on the trolley, and no one could find it. Fortunately, being that we were in downtown Chicago, there were lots of stores nearby where she could buy another one. We had the trolley driver pull over outside of a Walgreen's on Michigan Avenue. (Fun fact: It was the same Walgreen's where Shia LaBeouf got arrested for being drunk and disorderly.) My mom and sister - both in full-length, formal gowns - hopped off a trolley and ran into a Walgreen's in front of about a million tourists.

We couldn't stay parked in front of the store, so the trolley driver drove around the block. As we were about to make the final turn to go pick them back up, an older lady knocked on the door of the trolley and asked if it was the free trolley to Navy Pier. The trolley driver told her that it wasn't, but she kept asking. Finally, my aunt got fed up with this and yelled "This is a wedding!" She turned and saw me in the back of the trolley and just said, "Oh! Oh! Sorry! Congratulations!" It's seriously one of the funniest moments of my wedding day.

Once we got back to Michigan Avenue, we found my uncle who had gotten off with my mom and sister. Walgreen's didn't have earring backs, so my mom and sister walked the one block to Macy's. I'm sure they were quite the sight to see in their full-length, formal gowns walking amid the tourists on the Magnificent Mile. About 10 minutes before the wedding was supposed to start, they ran out of Macy's with a brand-new pair of earrings for my sister. Crisis averted!

A minute later, we pulled up to the church.

As I stepped off the trolley...

...I saw my dad for the first time that day.

He told me that when he saw me pull up, I took his breath away. Dads are cute.

Our photographer caught this amazing shot...

...and then it was time to go get married!
